What is the difference between psychologist and psychiatrist?

Basically the psychologist is trained in using different methods to diagnose not only the underlying issues but to recognize the person as a whole. A psychiatrist could prescribe medicines to alleviate symptoms, but not to remove the cause. Both psychologists and psychiatrists could be trained in counselling and psychotherapy. It takes at least four years of additional education and training in both cases. Psychotherapy is more than psychological help or counselling, it is a method of changing some maladaptive patterns of behaviour and getting rid of symptoms. Often it is the only way to really recover.
